- Professional hiking guide from the hotel: Otti Bacher Senior runs the guided hiking tours at our hotel. Due to his longtime experience and his passion for the mountains, he shows you the marvellous nature around the Hochkönig. What is more, he explains interesting facts about flora and fauna and shows you the perfect backdrop for unforgettable holiday pictures. As an active member of the mountain rescue Dienten, he is well educated about possible risks and dangers in the mountains and he will certainly give you individual tips or will recommend you some good hiking trails. Salzburger Hof hiking recommendations
Marmot trail
Tour description: For around 2 generations now the marmots have taken up residence in the deep layers around the Schweizer Hut and the Arthurhaus. Since then they inhabit this area and are a genuine highlight for hikers and walkers. It is so seldom, that one can observe these animals so close up in their natural habitat. Not just an experience for children.
Forest adventure trail
Tour description: The forest adventure trail with its interactive stations will amaze you and your children. Discover everything along the way about the wonderful world of the spruce forest and its inhabitants.
Butterfly adventure trail
Tour description: A fascinating insight into the world of the butterflies, where you can test your knowledge on the quiz board at the end of the adventure trail. Suitable for pushchairs!
Myths & legends trails
Tour description: There are 12 different sagas to tell about the region of the Hochkönig. Each saga has its own individual hiking trail which leads from beautiful pastures and family hikes right up to challenging mountain tours. Large notice boards describe the incidents at the beginning with pictures and texts.
Bauernweg – Sonnberg
Level of difficulty: easy
Length of trail: 5,5 km
Duration: approx. 1,5 – 2 hours
Ascent: 100 altitude diff.
Start: Feroli
Type: extended tour, suitable for families
Tour description: From the bus stop at Keilbrücke left over the bridge along the path no. 59, on an asphalt agricultural road past lots of farms with their wonderful facades to the Lindlbauer. The path starts to go lightly uphill, past the Salchegghof and joins on the right into the next path no. 59. Follow this and after approx. 15 min. you will reach the Feroli bus stop. On this trail there are a lot of branches for beautiful walks, e.g. Einersbachgraben, to the Hirscheggalm or Huberalm and to the Königsbergalm.
Filzensattel – Grünegg
Level of difficulty: easy
Length of trail: approx. 9 km
Duration: approx. 1,5 hours
Ascent: 250 altitude diff.
Type: circuit tour, family suitable
Tour description: Take the scheduled public bus to the Filzensattel bus stop. From here follow the Forststraße no. 50 towards the Grünegg restaurant. After approx. 1 hour either take path no. 53c which is an easy path branching off to the left or 10 min. later the normal path no. 12 which branches off to the Grünegg restaurant. From here there is a beautiful view of the Hochkönig-Massiv.
Hirscheggalm – Bürglalm – Dienten
Level of difficulty: easy
Length of trail: 7,6 km
Duration: approx. 1,5 – 2 hours
Ascent: 500 altitude diff.
Start: Dienten village
Type: mountain pastures and huts hike
Tour description: In the middle of the village the Forststraße leads off left after the House Dienten towards the Hirscheggalm. After a 45 min. walk the path branches off to the left to the Bürglalm where you can take a break. During the climb and the descent you can savour the wonderful view of the Hochkönig.
Mountain huts safari in Dienten at the Hochkönig

Type: mountain pastures and huts hike
Tour description: It’s called the Mountain huts safari for a reason! A beautiful circuit tour which leads over mountain pastures and romantic forest trails with lots of opportunities to stop off for some refreshment at one of the many farmed huts. This circuit tour starts in the Dienten village centre with a total walking time of 6 hours. It’s also possible to do this tour in stages choosing them individually.
Enzenalmrundweg
Level of difficulty: medium
Length of trail: 5,0 km
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Ascent: 200 altitude diff.
Start: Hinterthal Church
Type: circuit tour with faunal and botanical highlights, suitable for families
Tour description: In Hinterthal pass the church (trail no. 431) and walk along the Urslau to the Triefen, a natural monument. Shortly afterwards it turns right further on over the Willi Schwaigerweg no. 32 to the Enzenalm (not farmed). Take descent via trail no. 32a and 415 to Hinterthal. The overhanging rocks with water dripping through the rocks, is particularly interesting.
Dorf Dienten – Sommerer Alm – Lettenalm – Klingspitz – Reicheralm – Grünegg – Dorf Dienten
Level of difficulty: medium to difficult
Length of trail: 16,3 km
Duration: approx. 6 hours

Start: Dienten village
Type: lovely scenic route tour for walkers who have a good condition
Tour description: From Dienten, the trail takes you over the Bergkirche to the hiking trail no. 440 which leads you via the Sommerer Alm to the Lettenalm, the Grinnköpfl to the Marbachhöhe. After a relatively flat part along the Marbachhöhe the path separates below the summit. Follow the direct climb no. 14a, from where you will reach the Klingspitz (1.988 m) after about 30 min. The way back is partly along the same way until it branches off to the Reicheralm no. 11. From there on it takes you over the Forstweg no. 54 to the Grüneggbauer (no. 50) and further along Trail no. 53b via the Church back to the village.
Klingspitzüberschreitung
Level of difficulty: difficult
Length of trail: 6,7 km
Duration: approx. 5 hours

Start: Gabühel
Type: mountain tour at over 2000 m: challenging and with amazing views, a hike with an impressive panorama and summit victory
Tour description: You take the Hochmaisbahn in Hinterthal or the Gabühel-chair lift to the mountain station. From here on the forest hike with some steep descents leads you on the right (Hochmais) or on the left (Gabühel) from the mountain station to Lettenalm. Hiking time about 90 min. From here, follow the path up to the Marbachhöhe. Afterwards some steeper climbs to the Klingspitz trail no. 14a. Hiking time 1,5 – 2 hours. From the Klingspitz summit, there is a steep descent along Trail no. 14 to the Hochkaser chapel (Hochkaseralm) – surefootedness is necessary here. Go along trail no. 55 and briefly following 55b, soon you will reach the Reicheralm below the Klingspitz and the Marbachhöhe. It’s possible to walk down to Dienten (via Grünegg), to Hintermoos (via Lettenalm, Brandleiten) or to Hinterthal (via Gabühel/Hochmaisbahn). Stops for refreshment are the Reicheralm, Lettenalm or Hochkaseralm.
Königsweg – 1st stage (Maria Alm – Dienten)
Level of difficulty: difficult
Length of trail: 18,7 km
Duration: approx. 7,5 hours
Ascent: 1300 altitude diff.
Start: tourist office Maria Alm – finish at Dienten
Type: lovely staged hike with summit victory
Tour description: The tour leads over paths with amazing views from the Maria Alm up to Dienten and is the 1st stage of the Königsweg. Along the hike from one mountain pasture hut to the next it always takes you along the majestic and legendary Hochkönig range. Unspoiled nature, abrupt cliff faces, gentle meadows, wide mountain pastures and magical forests are constant companions. Rating: worthwhile to hike!
